Sara Bareilles – Once Upon Another Time (EP)

2006 was the first year since Santa Claus Lane that Hilary Duff didn’t release a new album. Instead, she took her time crafting her next album, an effort that paid off. Dignity was released on April 3, 2007. To date, it represented the most personal collection of songs yet with the most involvement from Hilary herself; she co-wrote all but one of the 14 tracks. Hilary had gone through her parents’ separation, her own breakup with boyfriend Joel Madden, and had an incident with a stalker, and the difficult events proved inspiring musically. Dignity was much more mature and dance-pop than Hilary’s previous albums, helping to set a trend that would bring artists like Lady Gaga plenty of success. Critical response was overwhelmingly positive for Dignity, yet the album ultimately charted lower and sold fewer copies than Hilary’s earlier albums. “Play With Fire” was the first song released from the record, though “With Love” was the official lead single. “With Love” ended up being Hilary’s highest charting single, reaching number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100. Album opener “Stranger” was the third and final single. Overall, Dignity is often considered Hilary’s best and most personal album to date.
Highlights on Dignity include “Stranger,” “Gypsy Woman,” “Burned,” “Happy,” “With Love,” and “I Wish.”
